Chris Fallon
President & EVP
Chris Fallon is President & EVP of Deriva Energy and is responsible for the company’s strategy, asset development, financing and operations.
Chris has more than 30 years of experience in the energy industry. He previously was president of Duke Energy’s renewables business and earlier served as Duke Energy’s vice president of nuclear development. Chris began his career in 1992 as a power quality engineer for Duke Power.
Chris currently serves on the board and executive committee for American Clean Power Association, as well as on the boards of REC Solar, Phoenix Energy Technologies and Duke-ATC (DATC) Transmission.
Chris received Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in electrical engineering from Clemson University. He is a registered professional engineer in North Carolina.
Ernie Kapopoulos
Vice President Renewable Operations
Ernie Kapopoulos is responsible for all aspects of operations and maintenance for the Deriva Energy’s wind, solar and battery facilities.
Ernie has more than 30 years of experience in the nuclear and energy industries. He served as site vice president of the Robinson Nuclear Plant in Hartsville, S.C, where he directed station and facilities management, operations, maintenance, chemistry and radiation protection, engineering, nuclear and industrial safety, and business operations. Ernie began his career in 1986 as a submarine officer in the U.S. Navy, where he served for six years.
A native of Hudson, Mass., Ernie graduated from the College of the Holy Cross with a Bachelor of Arts degree in physics.
Brian Stallman
Vice President Development
Brian Stallman leads development for Deriva Energy’s wind, solar and storage businesses. His responsibilities include greenfield development, co-development and acquisitions, renewable sales, and structured financing. Previously, Brian led development for Duke Energy’s renewables business and held leadership roles in Duke Energy Investments and with Duke predecessor company Cinergy Corp. in business development, commercial fuels, and corporate development.
Brian holds an electrical engineering degree from Purdue University and an MBA from Indiana University.
Matthew Johnson
Vice President Technical Services & Construction
Matt leads engineering and technical support for Deriva Energy’s wind, solar, and battery storage projects. He is responsible for strategic equipment procurement, project execution and environmental permitting support to projects in development and construction.
Before his current position, Matt held a variety of senior roles at Duke Energy in engineering and construction for commercial solar projects, asset management and reliability engineering. Prior to joining Duke Energy, Matt was a project director for Nextera Energy Resource, where he led a regional team responsible for developing greenfield solar projects.
Matt holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kentucky and an MBA from Wake Forest University.
Frank Cook
Vice President Information Technology
Frank is responsible for information technology and cyber security for Deriva. He has over 30 years of Information Technology (IT) experience delivering operational excellence and transformational projects. He has been a part of multiple successful mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures capturing committed business value and delivering seamless operations. He has a track record of transforming IT teams and technologies to meet changing business climates. He began his career in 1987 at the Cincinnati Gas & Electric Co. as an application developer.
Frank is a native of Northern Kentucky with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Northern Kentucky University and an MBA from the University of Notre Dame.
Jacob Pollack
General Counsel
Jacob Pollack is General Counsel for Deriva Energy, where he is responsible for the company’s legal functions, including compliance, tax policy and land use. He has over two decades of experience serving as counsel to developers, owners and operators of U.S. renewable and fossil power generation. Prior to joining Deriva, Jacob was general counsel for Brookfield Renewable’s U.S. business, which he joined in 2018, and from 2006 to 2018 he held multiple in-house legal positions at Cogentrix Energy, ultimately serving as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary for the Charlotte, N.C.-based generation asset developer, owner and operator, which was a wholly owned subsidiary of Goldman Sachs until its acquisition by The Carlyle Group in 2012. Prior to Cogentrix, Jacob was an associate attorney in the corporate law department of Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP, working within the firm’s power-focused energy practice group.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree in Civil Engineering and Operations Research from Princeton University, as well as a JD from Columbia Law School.
